Okay, so Doctor Who is starting up again in less than a month now. Which is great. Wonderful even. Except I don't have high hopes as to whether it will be a good episode or not. All around the internet people are raving about this new season of Doctor Who and I'm stuck wondering if I'm watching the same episodes. The first episode of this season, Asylum of the Daleks was terrible. There are many reasons why.
1. There is no way that such a place would exist. Daleks strive for perfection. If one of them was less then perfect, they then would be EXTERMINATED. They wouldn't be put on an nice little planet and left to their own devices.
2. The whole air-borne pathogen that turned people into Daleks? That was just stupid. Again, the Daleks would not have allowed that planet to exist.
3. "Souffle Girl". There is no way, NO WAY, that the Daleks would have turned a HUMAN, a species that they think is less than filth, into one of their own. They would have taken her knowledge and gotten rid of her. Although, I doubt that the Daleks would have conceded that a human knew something that they didn't.
I, personally, was happy when "Souffle Girl" died. And I thought that maybe the next episode would be better. But it wasn't. This is a pretty creepy episode. Not because of the dinosaurs but because of the fact that the Doctor killed someone in a malicious manner. And because of the general creepiness of Solomon. But still, it was hard to feel compassion towards the characters. They weren't very likeable. And Rory's father was slightly annoying (though Rory was his usual awesome self).
Let's skip over the next three episodes (A Town Called Mercy was amusing at some parts; The Power of Three was boring beyond words and The Angles Take Manhattan was alright but slightly anti-climaxal) and go straight to the Christmas Special, The Snowmen. There were many reasons why this was my least favourite Christmas special.
1. The Doctor was being mopey and annoying. It seemed less like he was upset that Amy and Rory were dead and more like he was annoyed that he no longer had playmates.
2. It had the return of "Souffle Girl" but this time as a Bar Maid and a Governess. She was alright as a Bar Maid until she started chasing the Doctor around. And as a Governess she was terrible.
3. "Ice Governess". This needs no explanation.
So yeah, there were many other thing wrong with that episode but I don't have time to list them all. But yeah. We'll see what happens with the new episode.
